New Builds, Extensions & Architectural Stonework

We deliver high-quality stonework for new builds, extensions, and bespoke projects, combining traditional stonemasonry techniques with modern construction requirements. Our work includes full stone façades, structural masonry, architectural detailing, and one-off handcrafted features, all carefully set out and built to suit the design and setting. Whether forming part of a new home, extending an existing property, or creating a distinctive bespoke element, each project is approached with precision, material knowledge, and attention to detail. The result is stonework that integrates seamlessly, performs properly, and stands the test of time.

New Build Stonework & Blockwork — Girvan

This project involved the construction of stone panels and full blockwork masonry for a new build residential property in Girvan. In addition to the primary structure, approximately 30 bespoke stone window surrounds were cut and installed, using carefully selected stone to enhance the architectural detailing of the home. While external finishes such as render and timber cladding are still to be completed as part of the wider build, the masonry works establish a strong, well-crafted foundation for the finished property.

New Build Stonework — Cove

This project formed part of a contemporary new build in Cove, combining traditional stonework with modern architectural design. Natural stone was carefully selected and built to create clean, well-proportioned masonry that complements the timber cladding and overall form of the building. The finished stonework provides a strong, durable base to the structure while grounding the modern design within its landscape.

Red Sandstone New Build – Helensburgh

This new build in Helensburgh features red sandstone masonry, carefully built to achieve a rich, textured finish with strong visual depth.
Each stone was individually selected and laid to create a balanced, traditional appearance, while maintaining the clean detailing expected of a modern build. A solid, characterful piece of stonework built to last.

New Build Whinstone Masonry — Founding Project

This project marked the first completed works undertaken by G.C Stonemasons and involved extensive new build masonry across two houses and associated garages. Snecked whin stone was carefully set and pointed throughout using Hourdex lime, covering approximately 550 m². An additional 200 m² of random rubble whin stone walling was also constructed as part of the development. The project established the standards of craftsmanship, material selection, and attention to detail that continue to define our work today.

New Build Stonework & Bespoke Staircase — Glasgow

This project began with the construction of square and sneck stone panels as part of a new build property in Glasgow. Following the successful completion of the initial masonry works, we were invited back to design and build a bespoke stone staircase to complement the house. Sandstone from our own yard was selected and used throughout to ensure consistency in colour, texture, and finish. The completed works demonstrate continuity of craftsmanship across the build, delivering durable, high-quality stonework tailored to the property.

Architectural Stonework – King Street, Stirling

Architectural stonework on a historic King Street building, including the formation of four new external window openings through 800mm-thick whin stone walls.

Bespoke Stone Extension — Falkirk

This project involved the construction of a highly bespoke stone extension designed to complement the distinctive character of the existing property. The unusual form and detailing required careful setting out, patience, and precision throughout. Every stone was hand-cut and shaped on site using traditional stonemasonry techniques, including the construction of a custom tapered pier. The completed extension integrates seamlessly with the original building while delivering a durable, one-of-a-kind stone structure built to last.

Structural Opening & Lintel Installation

This project involved forming a new structural opening through an existing stone wall to accommodate the installation of French doors. The works included carefully cutting through the masonry and installing a new structural lintel to safely support the opening. The surrounding stonework was made good to ensure stability and a clean, well-finished result. The completed works created a functional new access point while maintaining the integrity of the existing structure.

Hotel Renovation & Bespoke Stonework — Inverness

This project involved extensive bespoke stonework as part of the renovation of the Tiger on the Wall hotel in Inverness, overlooking Inverness Castle. The scope of works included the construction of a moulded stone archway, moulded window surrounds, dressed quoins and rybates, and a moulded string course, all cut, dressed, and built in position using traditional stonemasonry techniques. The project combines detailed architectural stonework with careful craftsmanship to enhance the character of this prominent building. Further works are ongoing, including stone cladding to the rear elevation and the construction of a stone access ramp with a moulded coping, currently being cut and tooled in our own yard.
