Internal Stone Restoration & Structural Alterations

We carry out internal stonework and structural masonry with the same care and attention applied to our external projects. Our interior work includes opening up original fireplaces, repairing and rebuilding stonework, replacing inappropriate materials, and forming new structural openings where required. Using traditional lime mortars and correctly matched stone, we restore breathability, stability, and character to internal spaces. Each project is approached with sensitivity to the building fabric, ensuring the stonework performs properly while remaining true to its original form.

Internal Stone Restoration & Fireplace Repair

This project involved the restoration of internal stonework within an existing property. Walls were carefully stripped back to expose the original masonry, with plaster removed to allow full assessment of the stone. The stonework was cleaned using a needle gun, with deteriorated mortar cut out and replaced using traditional lime mortars. Areas of damaged stone were rebuilt where required, and the original fireplace was restored to complete the works. The finished interior reveals sound, breathable stonework and reinstates key historic features of the space.

Stone Fireplace Installation

This project involved the installation of a substantial stone fireplace within an upper-floor interior. Large-format stone was carefully manoeuvred and installed on site, with the majority concealed behind the finished surround once set in place. The fireplace was completed with a firebrick herringbone backing to provide both durability and visual interest within the opening. The finished installation delivers a strong, well-crafted internal feature that balances structural solidity with refined detailing.

Significant Fireplace Restoration

This project involved the restoration of an original internal fireplace within a traditional stone property. The surrounding masonry was carefully opened up and repaired, with damaged stonework addressed and rebuilt where required to restore the original form and structure. The fireplace opening was stabilised and prepared in readiness for a new stove installation, with further finishing works to following to make the fireplace watertight. The transformation reinstates the fireplace as a functional and architectural focal point within the room.

Fireplace Lintel Replacement & Stone Repointing

This project involved the removal of an inappropriate concrete lintel and brickwork above an existing fireplace opening, which were replaced with a sandstone lintel selected to match the surrounding stone feature wall. Cement pointing between the stonework was carefully cut out and replaced with traditional lime mortar to restore breathability and visual consistency. The original hearthstone, previously recovered from the garden, was reinstated to complete the fireplace. The finished works restored the integrity, character, and cohesion of the internal stone feature.

Stone Repointing — Stirling
Cement pointing was removed and replaced with recessed lime mortar to enhance stone definition, with fine joints finished in ashlar lime for contrast. Selected stones were retooled by hand to remove surface carbonation, restoring clarity and breathability to the masonry.
